The COVID-19 pandemic showed no signs of slowing in Santa Barbara County on Saturday, as public health officials reported an additional 612 positive cases and three new deaths.
All three residents who died were in the age group of more than 70 years, and none of the deaths were related to outbreaks at community facilities in the country, according to the COVID-19 data dashboard of the Department of Public Health in Santa Barbara County. Two individuals had underlying health conditions and lived in Santa Maria, and one individual was from the Santa Barbara / unincorporated area of Mission Canyon.
To date, 24,149 positive cases have been reported in the country since the first local case in March, the public health department said.
231 COVID-19 deaths have been reported nationwide since April. Santa Barbara County reported its first COVID-19 death on April 1.
In January alone, more than 70 provincial residents have died so far from COVID-19.
There were 89 crew members for ICU beds for adults in use, and 53.9% of them were occupied by COVID-19 patients, according to the province’s online data dashboard.
ICU availability in the Southern California region with multiple states remained at 0% on Saturday. Santa Barbara County’s custom ICU availability stood at 1.3%. The home order in California is caused when the ICU availability in a region drops below 15%.
Of the new cases of Saturday, Santa Maria had 192, Santa Barbara scored 113, Lompoc 51, the Montecito-Summerland-Carpinteria area 34, Orcutt 36, Goleta 32 and the unincorporated Goleta. Valley and Gaviota scored 27. There were 24 in the Santa Ynez Valley, 23 in the unincorporated areas of Northern County and seven in Isla Vista. Seventy-three were geographically located.
196 confirmed COVID-19 patients were treated in local hospitals, an increase of 192 the previous day. Of these, 48 residents were in intensive care units – four less than the previous day.
According to the Department of Public Health, there are 2,811 cases still considered contagious in Santa Barbara County.
A total of 371,873 COVID-19 tests were administered in Santa Barbara County on Saturday, according to the daily status report. More than 3990 COVID-19 tests were reported in the country on Saturday.
