Here is today’s COVID-19 update from the County Health and Human Services Agency with data through March 8, 2021.
Vaccination claim:
- More than 1.15 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been delivered in the region, and more than 1.1 million have been recorded as administered. Of those vaccinated so far, more than 355,000 people, or 13.2% of San Diegans 16 and older, have been fully vaccinated.
- Overall, more than 651,000 provincial residents received at least one uptake of the two-dose vaccine. This is 24.2% of those who are eligible.
- Those who receive the Johnson & Johnson vaccine are added to the total of the fully vaccinated San Diegans.
- The difference between doses delivered and those used in a vaccination represents approximately what is expected to be administered in the next seven days and doses yet to be recorded in the record system.
- More information on the distribution of vaccines can be found on the province’s vaccination panel. Visit for information on currently eligible groups and vaccination opportunities www.vaccinationsuperstation.com.
State statistics:
- San Diego County’s calculated, adjusted case rate is currently 8.8 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (as of March 9) and the region is in Purple Tier or Tier 1.
- The positive percentage of the test is 3.3%, which places the county in level 3 or the orange level. Although the test positivity rate for the county qualifies it for Level 3, the state uses the most restrictive measure – in this case the adjusted rate – and allocates provinces to that level. Therefore, the county remains in the Purple Tier or Tier 1.
- The county’s health equity measure, which looks at the positive testing of areas with the lowest health conditions, is 4.5% and is in the orange level or level 3. This measure does not move provinces to more limited levels, but should to less restrictive level.
- The California Department of Public Health reviews provinces weekly. The next report is scheduled for Tuesday, March. 16.

- No new community outbreaks were confirmed on March 8.
- In the past seven days (March 2 to 8), 24 community outbreaks have been confirmed.
