Here is today’s COVID-19 update from the County Health and Human Services Agency with data through January 18th.

ICU capacity and stay at home order:

  • The current intensive care unit (ICU) beds for the Southern California region are 0.0% and will be updated daily by the state.
  • The Regional home order is in force and prohibits gatherings of any size with people from other households and adds restrictions for various sectors.
  • The order will last until the ICU availability of the region reaches or exceeds 15%.

Community Institutions:

  • Seven new community outbreaks were confirmed on January 18: three in TK-12 school environments, two in business environments, one in government and one in a hotel / resort / spa area.
  • No new community outbreaks were confirmed on January 17.
  • Twelve community outbreaks were confirmed on January 16: five in day care / preschool / child care institutions, two in business, two in government, one in emergency services, one in health care and one in retail.
  • Seven community outbreaks were confirmed on January 15: three in the business world, two in emergency services, one in a residence and one in a restaurant area.
  • In the last seven days (January 12 to 18), 47 community outbreaks have been confirmed.
  • The number of community outbreaks remains within seven days above the trigger of seven or more.
  • An outbreak in a community over the past 14 days is defined as three or more COVID-19 cases in an area and in people from different households.

Test:

  • 12,675 tests were reported to the county on January 18, and the percentage of new positive cases was 20%.
  • The current average percentage of positive cases of 14 days is 12.1%. The target is less than 8.0%.
  • The daily average of 7 days is 24,333.
  • People at higher risk for COVID-19 who are with or without symptoms should be tested. People with any symptoms should be tested. Healthcare and essential workers should also get a test, as well as people who have had close contact with a positive cause or live in communities that are severely affected. Those who have recently returned from their trip, or who have participated in holiday gatherings, are also requested to be tested.

Incidents:

  • 2498 cases were reported to the county on 18 January. The total of the region is now 216,835.
  • 8 484 or 3.9% of all cases required hospitalization.
  • 1,314 or 0.6% of all cases and 15.5% of the hospital cases had to be admitted to an intensive care unit.

Deaths:

  • Six new COVID-19 deaths were reported to the county on January 18. The total of the region is now 2 109.
  • Three women and three men died between December 28 and January 9.
  • Of the six new deaths reported, five people who died were 80 years or older and one person in the 70s.
  • All had underlying medical conditions.
  • No new COVID-19 deaths were reported to the province on January 17.
  • 38 new COVID-19 deaths were reported on January 16 in the province.
  • 13 women and 25 men died between 29 December and 15 January.
  • Of the 38 new deaths reported, 14 people who died were 80 years or older, 13 people were in their 70s, five people were in their 60s and six people were in their 50s.
  • 34 had underlying medical conditions and four had medical history pending.
  • 28 new COVID-19 deaths were reported in the province on 15 January.
  • 14 women and 14 men died between 1 January and 14 January.
  • Of the 28 new deaths reported, 12 people who died were 80 years or older, seven people were in their 70s, six people were in their 60s and three people were in their 50s.
  • 27 had underlying medical conditions and one had medical history pending.
