San Antonio’s spectacular skywalk opens in Phil Hardberger Park

Nature seekers, this San Antonio park has a beautiful new feature that you will want to try.

The highly anticipated skywalk section of the Robert LB Tobin Land Bridge in Phil Hardberger Park will be officially opened to the public on Monday, April 5th. The elevated walkway is 1,000 feet long, six feet wide and 18 feet off the ground and offers a beautiful view. . It also connects pedestrians with the agricultural bridge, which opened in December 2020.

The skywalk begins at noon, shortly after Mayor Ron Nirenberg and former San Antonio Mayor Phil Hardberger, as well as other community leaders, hosted a grand opening celebration. It is the first walkway of its kind built in San Antonio, according to a city news release.

Visitors must use the NW military entrance to Phil Hardberger Park, 8400 NW Military Hwy. Drive to the Urban Ecological Center (you can’t miss it). After parking, walk about a mile from the center to the sky. (It should take 10 to 15 minutes to get there.)

The skywalk will be open to the public during park hours, from sunrise to sunset every day. No bicycles are allowed on the walkway. It is also ADA accessible and has a seating area for anyone who wants to relax under the trees.

“The Skywalk is one of the most unique features of the Robert LB Tobin Land Bridge,” Hardberger said in a release. “I like to describe it as a line driven by your feet. Visitors will see the squirrel of the trees and the ground below and offer a new perspective on the park and its animal inhabitants.”

Phil Hardberger Park is a 330-acre nature park amidst a busy urban core. In addition to the recreation area, Hardberger Park is a learning landscape with a meeting room, outdoor classrooms, dog parks, play areas and miles of trails.
