  • Samsung has confirmed that its next flagship Exynos chipset will have an AMD GPU.
  • The firm announced the news during the launch of the Exynos 2100.
  • This indicates an AMD GPU in the 2022 Galaxy S flagship line.

Samsung and AMD announced a partnership in 2019 to develop a mobile GPU, with the aim of offering improved performance over the current Arm Mali GPU and narrowing the gap for Qualcomm.

The Korean company has just announced the Exynos 2100 processor, which will power the Galaxy S21 series phones in some markets. But the new processor still uses Arm’s Mali graphics instead of AMD power. Samsung LSI president and general manager, dr. Inyup Kang, however, revealed during the launch event that its “next flagship product” will have a “next generation mobile GPU” by AMD (go to 12:48).

Samsung Semiconductor has now given clarity to Android Authority that it referred to the next flagship Exynos processor rather than the next flagship phone.

‘With’ next flagship product ‘, dr. Kang Exynos meant, ‘a company spokesman told us, adding that it is unable to clear specific devices that the next processor will use.

However, the confirmation that Samsung’s next Exynos flagship processor will use an AMD GPU means we can expect it to land in 2022. In other words, it sounds like the Galaxy S22 series could offer AMD graphics next year.

It’s still too early to know if an Exynos processor with AMD graphics will lead to leading GPU performance, but the initial effort will definitely provide the basis for future efforts.
