Mobile games have grown tremendously over the last few years – it’s really amazing to see how far phones have come since the days of Candy Crush, especially in terms of graphics performance. Samsung wants to stay a big part of this growing market, focusing its Galaxy Store on gaming and focusing on releasing updates for graphics drivers. Back in 2019, Samsung and AMD announced a partnership to bring Radeon technology to smartphones. Now it seems that the fruits of that partnership are almost within reach, as indicated today during the Exynos 2100 event.
At the end of the Exynos meeting, Samsung teased its plans to include an AMD GPU in its “next flagship” product. The wording here is a few ambiguous. Samsung’s next flagship product is of course the Galaxy S21, and we know the phones do. not Contains AMD graphics hardware. If so, what future flagship product does Samsung actually mean?
According to the leaking Ice Universe, the 2100 announced today is just the beginning, and a future chipset, complete with an AMD GPU, will be released this year and may find its way into the Galaxy Z Fold3. I have to say, the idea of carrying a phone in my pocket that can unfold in an AMD-powered gaming tablet excites me – mobile games have pushed the envelope for graphics far beyond what many of us expected on current hardware , so it’s going to be exciting to see what developers do once this powerful new technology arrives.
