Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 may arrive in May

The rumored Galaxy Note 20 FE may be the last member of the Note family as the series has apparently discontinued. The range has apparently been replaced by the Galaxy Z Fold line, which sounds like an overly optimistic move as the foldable sales volume nowhere near Note serial numbers. A new report from South Korean outlet Bloter explains how Samsung intends to resolve this issue.

The chaebol recently announced financial results for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2020, and according to the report, the Mobile Communications Business saw a quarter of a quarter of profit due to lower sales and higher market spending. This year, the company is pinning its hopes on the Galaxy S21, foldable and 5G mass-market smartphones.

The technological colossus has a ‘two-track foldable’ strategy, which is not surprisingly based on the Galaxy Z Fold and Flip. The Z Fold is touted as an entertainment and productivity-focused device, and for the Flip, the target market is millennials, especially female consumers who want a stylish smartphone with a competitive price. Interestingly, the OG Galaxy Z Flip was twice as popular among men as women at launch.
This year it also appears to be the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is doing well despite its high price and its successor is expected to support the S Pen as well. Per Bloter, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will be launched in May this year. It remains to be seen if it will have a new one AMD-based SoC under the hood.
In short, foldable phones seem to be on the rise and Samsung wants to increase their popularity to maintain its dominance in the emerging market that may soon get crowded. Counterpoint Research estimates that total foldable shipments will increase almost eightfold from 700,000 units in 2020 to 5.5 million units this year.
