Samsung DeX can now bring your smartphone screen to your computer wirelessly *

With Samsung’s DeX software, you can connect supported phones and tablets to an external monitor or TV and use your mobile device like a computer.

A few years ago, Samsung also added support for using DeX on a PC so you can communicate with your Android apps on your Mac or Windows PC. Last year, Samsung added support to use DeX wirelessly to send your content to a supported smart TV or monitor.

One thing you could not do until recently? Use DeX wirelessly with a computer. But now you can … maybe.

Android Police

As seen by Android Police, it looks like the feature of Samsung’s One UI 3.1 software is needed, which started with the Samsung Galaxy S21 smartphones, although it may roll out to older phones in the future.

To use DeX wirelessly with a computer, you must:

  • Download and install the latest version of DeX for Windows or Mac.
  • Make sure a link to Windows does not work on your phone.
  • Open DeX on your phone, select DeX on PC

Once done, you should see a computer-like user interface on your computer that allows you to run your Android apps on a larger screen. This can be useful if, for example, you want to use a mouse and keyboard for chatting or responding to emails. You can also continue to use your phone while it is paired.

You’ll probably still get a more stable connection if you use a USB cable to connect your phone to a computer, but Android Police notes that wireless DeX for PC supports 1080p content without slowing down the input.
