Samsung bothers its first camera not shown, but it does not come to phones

January 13, 2021 19:16 by NewsDesk

In September last year, ZTE introduced the first phone with an under-display camera. While the ZTE Axon 20 5G is currently the only phone with a selfie camera that is not displayed, the technology is expected to become slightly more common by the end of this year. There are also rumors that Samsung, which according to rumors has been working on the camera technology for a long time, has taken a closer look at launching its first camera phone that will not be shown this year.

Although Samsung has not yet outlined its under-camera technology, Samsung Display today posted a video on Weibo and teased its new OLED panels with selfie cameras that were not shown. However, Samsung Display’s new display technology is not intended for use in smartphones. It will come to notebooks first.

As can be seen in the video above, Samsung’s under-display camera technology will allow notebooks to have almost borderless screens with a screen-to-body ratio of 93%. The panel is also incredibly thin with only 1 mm and weighs 130 g. Samsung Display has not yet shared any more information about the technology, so it’s not clear if the first notebooks will come with Samsung’s “Blade Bezel” screens later this year.

According to Samsung, the first phone with an under-display camera is the Galaxy Z Fold 3, which is a sequel to one of the best Android phones launched last year. As the foldable phone is not expected to launch until the second half of the year, we may learn more about Samsung’s camera technology in the coming months.
