When the Jets traded quarterback Sam Darnold to the Panthers on Monday, they continued a long tendency to trade their first-round playoffs.

In fact, Darnold, who drafted the Jets in 2018, was the sixth consecutive pick in the first round they traded.

In 2017, the Jets selected the safety of Jamal Adams sixth overall. Last year, they traded him to the Seahawks.

In 2016, the Jets selected lineout player Darron Lee 20th overall. In 2019, they traded him to the Chiefs.

In 2015, the Jets selected Leonard Williams’ defensive line sixth overall. In 2019, they traded him to the Giants.

In 2014, the Jets selected an overall 18th safety speech for Calvin Pryor. In 2017, they traded him to the Browns.

In 2013, the Jets selected defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson 13th overall. In 2017, they traded him to the Seahawks.

The last pick in the first round that the Jets did not exchange was cornerback Dee Milliner, who in 2013 selected them ninth overall.

That the Jets were able to trade the first six rounds shows that they were not complete busts, because a full bust has no trade value. But it’s certainly not ideal for the Jets that their first round does not last long enough to sign second contracts.
