Salma Hayek remembers sobbing during filming ‘Desperado’ sex scene

Salma Hayek opens up about how her earliest film caused her great sadness.

The 54-year-old star appeared Monday on Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast where she reflects on her breakout role in 1995’s Desperado “opposite Antonio Banderas.

The award-winning actress recalled being grateful for the landing in Carolina, but admitted that she was not aware that she would have to film a sex scene before production began.

“So when we started shooting, I started sobbing, ‘I do not know I can do this. I’m scared,'” Hayek recalls of Shepard and his co-host Monica Padman.

Hayek said she and Banderas filmed the scene on a closed set with director Robert Rodriguez and his then-wife, producer Elizabeth Avellán, with whom she said she had close ties.

“One of the things I was afraid of was Antonio – he was an absolute gentleman and so kind, and we are still very close friends – but he was very free. It scared me that it was like nothing to him. I started crying, and he was like, “Oh my God. You make me feel terrible.” And I was so ashamed that I cried, “she continued.

The “Frida” star emphasized that Banderas and Rodriguez never “press” her, but she still remembers vivid details of the experience.

“I did not let go of the towel,” she recalls. “They will try to make me laugh. I would take it out for two seconds and start crying again. But we made it through. We did our best with what we could do at the time. ‘

“If you are not you, you can do it. But I keep thinking of my father and my brother,” she added. “And are they going to see it? And are they going to be teased? Guys have not. Your father will be, ‘Yes! This is my son!’

“Desperado” helped start the career of the Mexican-American star, and she’s been in the business for three decades now.

Elsewhere in the interview, Hayek protested her marriage in 2009 to wealthy French businessman François-Henri Pinault. She faced claims and rumors that she only ended up with the Kering CEO for his money, which she denied.

“You know the thing is, you can’t guess the magic in him in pictures,” the Oscar nominee said. “He made me a much better person and grew up in such a good, healthy way.”

She continued: “And you know when I married him, everyone said, ‘Oh, it’s a regular marriage, she’s married to him for the money. I’m like,’ yes, whatever, b — h. “Think what you want: 15 years together, and we are strong in love.”
