Saints Alvin Kamara happy to help fantasy managers, charity in New Orleans

METAIRIE, La. The historic Christmas Day performance of Alvin Kamara, New Orleans Saints, is a gift that keeps on giving.

Kamara’s NFL record-breaking six touchdowns were at the perfect time for fantasy football managers to use him in their championship games. And many of those grateful fantasy managers in turn paid for it with donations in honor of Kamara to a charity he supports.

Son of a Saint, an organization that mentors boys who have lost their fathers to death or incarceration, said it has received $ 21,000 from nearly 400 donors so far.

“We are especially grateful to Alvin for choosing Son of a Saint as his charity,” said founder Bivian ‘Sonny’ Lee III, son of the late Bivian Lee. “As an organization, we are turning ten years old during the midnight strike, so that makes the generosity even more significant as we start 2021.

“As there are 200 boys enrolled, generous donations like these can make us more effective and fulfill our mission. I want to thank Alvin Kamara and everyone who has donated so far.”

Kamara scored 56.2 points in ESPN PPR (points per reception) leagues, the fourth most by any player in a game in the past 20 seasons. He jokingly said that he was well aware of the fact that fantasy managers are dissatisfied with his performance, and he enjoyed seeing this reaction.

‘People, they’re strong all year long about this fantasy football … I do not even want to echo the things they sent and tweeted, like things like that. “But it’s good to see people keep their word and they are willing to donate,” Kamara said. “I do not know for how much you play fantasy football; I have never played it … But it’s going to a good organization. I’m just blessed to be able to help Son of a Saint at the same time.

Kamara, who was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career last week – among other honors – said he did not spend much time concentrating on his performance.

“I was blessed to be able to do that in a city I love with a team I love. It’s cool,” he said. “But I’m completely honest – I’m always just looking at the next one, what can I do more. That’s what I’m looking for.

“I do not want to belittle it and make it look like it was not an amazing achievement because it was. I was more than happy to just share it with everyone, like Drew [Brees] excited and Sean [Payton] excited and all the guys excited. ‘

The Saints (11-4) secure their fourth consecutive NFC South title with a 52-33 victory over the Minnesota Vikings in Week 16. They still have an outside chance on the NFC’s No. 1 series if they reach their final on Carolina Panthers win – – but they will need both the Chicago Bears to beat the Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks to beat the San Francisco 49ers. The Saints would earn the leading tournament in a triple battle with the Packers and Seahawks due to a better conference record.
