Sacha Baron Cohen wants outgoing President Donald Trump banned on every social media platform.
After Twitter, Facebook and Instagram suspended the president from their respective platforms after the riots in Capitol Hill, the actor now hopes that YouTube will fall in line and ban Trump’s account as others have done.
The 49-year-old actor urged Alphabet officials, namely Susan Wojcicki, CEO of YouTube, and Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, to suspend Trump’s account of their video suspension platform and the ‘right thing’ for American democracy.
‘Virtually every social media business has removed Trump … EXCEPT for YouTube. Trump’s YouTube channel is STILL showing more videos of his MILLIONS of people! Retweet and tell @Google, @sundapichai, @YouTube, @SusanWojcicki – do the right thing #BanTrumpSaveDemocracy, ”Cohen posted on Twitter.
In another tweet, “Borat” star YouTube calls the new “Trump TV” and the companies hit ads on videos that allegedly incite the rioters to storm the Capitol.
‘YouTube is the new Trump TV. Trump’s YouTube Channel Shows +4,000 Trump Videos, Including “Stop Stealing” and Shout “Fight!” Corporate America – WHY show your ads on You Tube Trump TV ?! RT to say to @Google, @YouTube, @SusanWojcicki. #BanTrumpSaveDemocracy, ”Cohen tweeted.
Apart from Cohen, also the actress Amy Schumer hit the tech giants because they took no action on Trump’s bill and noted that these companies give the president a platform to spread ‘lies and conspiracies’.
Other notable personalities such as Chelsea Handler, Judd Apatow, Monica Lewinsky and Lawrence O’Donnell also shared the same sentiment and thickened their voices.
“We all need to click on @Youtube, @SusanWojcicki and retweet it again to stop the spread of disinformation,” Handler wrote, quoting Cohen’s tweet.
This is not the first time the “Trial of the Chicago 7” star has spoken out against the outgoing president. Recently, the Golden Globe winner admitted that he decided to revive Borat because of Trump’s presidency.
In an interview with Variety, Cohen revealed that he saw many threats to democracy under the Trump administration and that it was the perfect time to resurrect the character.
“I felt that democracy was in danger. “I felt that people’s lives were dangerous and I was obliged to complete the film,” said Varhen Cohen.
