Ryan Day on Ohio State football’s Sugar Bowl list: ‘The plane is a little fuller than it was a week ago’

NEW ORLEANS – Ryan Day’s football coach Ryan Day continues to avoid the details, but he again hinted on Thursday that the Buckeyes will have more players available for the Sugar Bowl against Clemson on Friday.

The state of Ohio played without 24 players in the Big Ten Championship win over Northwestern on Dec. 18. Many of the players were away due to coronavirus test protocols, although others were sidelined with injuries.

Maria Taylor of ESPN asked Day if the Buckeyes would start their semifinal of the College Football Playoff after Day departed by plane in New Orleans on Thursday.

“As you know, there’s a protocol to come back,” Day said. ‘A lot of the guys are back in the protocol, and they got stronger as the week went on. But you do not just jump on the field after being outside for a long time.

“The plane is a little fuller than it was a week ago.”

Several OSU players are visible from the plane behind Day in the video above. The Buckeyes arrive at 16:12 local time and travel to the Superdome for a run-through.
