Rust player data lost in European data center

Very Rust players in Europe may have unexpectedly lost their servers this morning. According to developer Facepunch Studios, a fire at a data center destroyed 25 servers, and the data of the servers is lost.

The fire broke out at the OVH Datacenter in Strasbourg, Germany. It destroyed one of the OVH buildings and damaged another. While the fire was large enough to take the entire OVH Datacenter with four buildings offline, everyone was safely evacuated and the fire was brought under control by firefighters. The data center will remain largely offline until next week.

According to an update from Facepunch posted after the fires were under control, “We confirmed a total loss to the affected EU servers during the fire in the OVH data center. We are now investigating the replacement of the affected servers. Data will not be restored. ”

Rust does have regular serving cloths that occur every month, which slightly reduces the amount of data lost from each server. In the latest update, Facepunch confirmed that many of the EU’s servers of the game are back online without the game progress being stored on it. It is unclear whether this will affect the greater EU capacity of the game while OVH’s servers are available online again.
