Rust Foundation established to manage the rust programming language

PROGRAMMING -

Mozilla has been sponsoring the Rust programming language for more than a decade, while most of the Rust team got rid of Mozilla’s major retrenchments in 2020 and abandoned the Servo web engine team. Thereafter, plans were drawn up to create the Rust Foundation as an independent entity.

This non-profit organization for the control of the Rust programming language ecosystem is now up and running with its first board meeting presented this week. The initial board of the Rust Foundation includes directors of the founding member companies of AWS, Huawei, Microsoft, Google and Mozilla. There are also five directors of the project leadership.

These founding member companies will sponsor the Rust work. Mozilla transferred the trademark and all infrastructure assets (including the Crates.io repository) to the Rust Foundation.

More information about the founding of the Rust Foundation for the Advancement of Rust can be found at foundation.rust-lang.org.
