A senior Russian parliament official said Thursday that the United States should apologize after President Biden said he agreed to assassinate Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the official indicated that the Kremlin could take additional action after he recalled his ambassador to the US.
Reuters reported that Konstantin Kosachyov, the deputy chair of the parliamentary council, cites Biden’s response as a watershed moment in relations between the two countries. He said such a remark “is not allowed out of the mouth of a statesman of such rank.”
Kosachyov refers to an interview Biden had on ABC News this week when asked if he believed Putin was a murderer. Biden said, “I do.”
The Wall Street Journal reports that Ambassador Anatoly Antonov was recalled to Moscow shortly after the US released an intelligence report directly linking Putin to election interference in the 2020 presidential election.
Moscow has denied the allegations.
