Rush Limbaugh had an unlikely friendship with Elton John, who performed at his wedding in 2010

After the death of conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh, people remember one of his most enigmatic friendships in Hollywood: Elton John.

Although the duo often stood on different sides of most political issues, John and Limbaugh had a friendship that was strengthened in 2010 when the radio host approached the singer to perform an 80-minute set at his wedding with Kathryn Rogers in Palm Beach, Florida. .

According to People, who was interviewing John’s husband David Furnish at the time, the singer was not sure the invitation to the marriage law was genuine. However, when it became clear that the Limbaughs actually wanted the artist there despite political differences, John apparently said, “Life is about building bridges, not walls.”

He apparently added: “Maybe people will change their perspectives on life if I can make a big impression.”

He claims he and John first crossed paths at a hotel in Hawaii. When Limbaugh was hospitalized in Hawaii shortly thereafter, he learned that John had inquired about his health. His future wife sees an opportunity and writes a letter to the artist asking if he would be willing to perform at their wedding. Limbaugh claimed at the time that John had no reluctance to act.

Furnish said in his interview with People that the couple was “incredibly gracious and very welcoming and very sweet and very appreciative.”

In the years that followed, John spoke favorably of the radio host, even though he was not always with him. According to a USA Today interview in 2012, he even speculated that Limbaugh did not personally hold the beliefs of the gay community he views on air.

Kathryn announced the news of Rush’s death at the age of 70 after a battle with lung cancer during his radio program on Wednesday.
