A new rumor has it that the Nintendo DS games Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon will be reworked for Switch in 2006, with an official announcement for February. This would be in line with rumors of a Nintendo Direct release on February 27th.
Pokemon Center reports that The Pokemon Company plans to celebrate the franchise’s 25th anniversary with Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes, which will reportedly feature catch mechanics more like the original games than the more recent iterations of Pokemon Let’s Go and Pokemon Sword and Shield.
This is not the first we have heard of potential iterations of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, but it is the first suggestion of a revelation date. Late last year we reported on a series of tweets from the well-known fun Kelios claiming that the Switch remakes would appear in November 2021, which would be a realistic release window if the rumor is accurate and the announcement comes next month.
The Pokémon community has been waiting for a while to bring about Pokémon Diamond and Pearl remakes. It’s been more than a year since Pokémon Sword and Shield was released, and since Red and Blue, Gold and Silver, and Sapphire and Ruby have all been remade, it seems inevitable for Nintendo to give Gen 4 a fresh coat of paint.
Pokemon Diamond and Pearl introduced the mountainous Sinnoh region, as well as a bunch of new world features and game mechanics. There was the Pokemon Watch, which allows you to promote apps you find throughout the game, as well as the Underground, an area built for online multiplayer, where you can create and decorate bases and play mini-games.
If you missed it, Pokemon Snap just got an official release date in April.
