Rumors: AirTags is on schedule to launch in March with the new iPad Pro

Apple’s well-known AirTags could be launched as early as next month, a new leak claims today. This comes after Apple’s trusted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported last month that AirTags is on track for a release sometime in 2021.

Today’s leak comes from Jon Prosser, who tweeted that AirTags “Still in progress for March” and that he had not heard of any further delays this time. He also in a follow-up tweet that the new 2021 iPad Pro models will also be up and running from March.

AirTags is expected to be Apple’s competition for trackers of Tile items. Users can pair an AirTag tracker with something like a backpack and locate it in the Find My app on iPhone, iPad and Mac. There have been rumors about AirTags for more than a year now, and despite multiple reports suggesting it should be released, nothing has materialized yet.

As for the iPad Pro, a variety of rumors have suggested that a release would take place sometime in the first quarter of 2021, and Prosser says it will be in March. The expectation is that the mini-LED backlight will first come on the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, followed eventually by the 11-inch iPad Pro.

Mini-LED is a new form of backlight used for LCD screens, which has many advantages over OLED, but it can offer increased brightness, improved power efficiency and a lower risk of burn-in.

The iPad Pro series of 2021 is expected to be virtually identical to the 2020 model in terms of design. So the biggest change is probably the shift in display technology, plus a new disc that is likely to be based on the A14 inside for even better performance.

Last month, we speculated that Apple could envision enough new products to hold a virtual event in early 2021. What do you think? Will these be press releases for the new iPad Pro and AirTags? Let us know in the comments!
