As we get closer to April 29 and the start of the NFL draft in 2021, the rumor mill is starting to heat up.
Ben Standig van The Athletics spoke to several key people in the NFL to gather information on the upcoming NFL draft. After discussing options with ‘general managers, managers, coaches, scouts and agents’ who ‘were willing to share insight and information’, he wrote an article highlighting the information he gathered.
Constantly offering lots of interesting pieces of trek nuggets, like which quarterback is the San Francisco 49ers who are at number 3? Is a quarterback in the mix for the Atlanta Falcons at No. 4? The Penei Sewell (OT, Oregon) vs. Jamar Chase (WR, LSU) vs. Kyle Pitts’ (TE, Florida) debate in Cincinnatti on no. 5, as well as notes on several Top-100 players, include the comprehensive look at how things develop in the run-up to the concept.
He also addressed the Detroit Lions situation at No. 7, saying that despite being involved earlier in the off-season, “a senior executive” believes general manager Brad Holmes is looking for another deal and try to from no. ”
“While Chase, Waddle or Sewell would help right away, Detroit could use teams that want a quarterback, a wide receiver or Sewell, who could also benefit the Lions,” Standig continued. “The new GM Brad Holmes acquired Goff from his old team to give the No. 1 pick in 2016 a new opportunity.”
There are several teams looking for a quarterback who is currently behind the Lions in draft draft, including the Carolina Panthers at No. 8, the Denver Broncos at No. 9, the New England Patriots at No. 15, and the Washington football team at no. 19 – by Standig notes that ‘one high-ranking official does not suggest that (Ron) Rivera will move significant assets, but if he does, the executive believes it for Fields and not for Lance.’
Even if the quarterback situation does not offer a tradable market, as Standig notes, there may still be a team that wants to trade for a receiver or Sewell, which will open up the Lions trading options even more.
With four or five full-backs possibly selected at the top of the draft, an elite attacking linebacker and a few top-level receivers, the Lions need to find themselves in a great position to beat and take a fundamental piece, or trade for more assets.
