Despite all the talk about a Carson Wentz deal coming up soon, we need to see a deal come to fruition.
So, what gives?
All indications are that the Eagles have offers on the table, but that’s not profitable enough for Philly to pull the trigger. It looks like Howie Roseman is coming out for the perfect effort to get in.
But will it ever dawn? The Eagles potentially run the risk of Wentz pulling offers off the table by waiting too long.
On this note, Windy City Gridiron contributor Brandon Robinson recently appeared on The Bear Report Podcast to talk about where things stand with Wentz and the Bears.
‘From what I understand, the Bears made an offer that was greater than what the Colts had already offered. The Bears previously offered two 2s, so it was bigger than that. And they went back to the Colts, the Eagles, and the Colts said they were not budding. And from what I understand, what the Colts offered was somewhat similar to what the Bears had already offered, but maybe a little less. But the Eagles wanted Carson Wentz to be so much of the NFC that they might be able to take a little less. What the Eagles are trying to do is try to negotiate time and time again [through] every reporter who wants to listen that they need more and they tell everyone two 1s and that is not the case at all. And now the Bears are getting really impatient, which I do not blame them for having to find out what they are doing at quarter and they can not go to the beginning of a free agency because of the salary cap and where it is going to place them. They signed with Derek Carr, the Raiders want way too much. And so the Eagles were basically forced to give Carson only to the Bears, but they want more, and I do not blame them for wanting more. If I were the Eagles, I would stretch it as far as possible, wait to see if Ryan Pace becomes core and eventually send two 1s, but that’s an interesting predicament. ”

‘I do not think I have said it yet, and I want to include it: I think 100% [Nick] Foles are in the deal because it’s an important part of the deal because Carson does not want him in the same locker room. But what I expect is … if I had to post it now, it’s next year’s first and third round of this year. Or … this year’s first and next year’s fourth, but that’s subject to a certain amount of games that Carson plays. I do not think the Bears get a pick from the Eagles, except maybe next year a sixth round or something really, very little. I think no other players will be involved with the Bears. I do not think there will be any other players from the Eagles involved. I have not heard anything from my sources about it yet [Zach] Ertz. I have from other people who have other sources about Ertz. But just as far as I know, I have not heard his name or other players yet.
It’s hard to imagine the Eagles getting leverage by waiting, because every day that passes comes closer to $ 10 million from Wentz’s 2022 salary and is fully guaranteed on March 19th. At some point, the Eagles need to realize that the offers are not getting better and they need to take the best one and move on. It’s not like keeping Wentz a realistic option when it looks like he does not want to be in Philly.
A package like the Bears’ first round in 2022, the third round in 2021 and Foles is a valuable offering. There’s a good chance things are going bad in Chicago next season. The Eagles may be able to pack the Bears pick and their own pick from 2022 to trade in for a quarterback next year if Jalen Hurts struggles as an appetizer. Or just use the choice to build around him if he looks like the long-term answer.
Meanwhile, it’s not just the Bears who are getting impatient. Everyone is eager to see what this seemingly inevitable deal looks like.
