Ronnie Spector remembers ‘brilliant producer’ and ‘bad man’

Ronnie Spector, the teenage protégée who became former wife of Phil Spector, spoke out on Sunday after his death, calling him a ‘brilliant producer but a bad man’.

In a post on Instagram, the 77-year-old frontwoman of the Ronettes said: “This is a sad day for music and a sad day for me.”

“When I worked with Phil Spector and when he saw him create in the recording studio, I knew I was working with the very best. He was in full control and led everyone. So much to love about those days. Meeting him and falling in love was like a fairy tale. The magical music we were able to make together was inspired by our love. I kept him crazy and gave my heart and soul to him. ”

The singer “Be My Baby”, who spoke deeply about the abuse and revenge she suffered before and after their divorce in 1974 at the hands of her ex-husband, also refers to the bad times.

‘As I have said many times while he was alive, he was a brilliant producer, but a bad man. Unfortunately, Phil could not live outside the recording studio. Darkness has dawned, many lives have been damaged. I still smile when I hear the music we made together and will always do. The music will last forever. Phil Spector 1939-2021, ”she wrote.

Ronnie, who had been married to Phil for six years, had earlier accused him of pulling a gun on her, forcing her to sign a divorce agreement that allegedly earned her from future records, and even the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame campaigning did not lead to her.

She also claimed he kept a gold coffin in the basement and told her he would kill her and put her in it if she tried to leave him.

The couple’s three adopted children also said they were abused by the late fickle record producer.

Born Veronica Bennett in Harlem, Spain, she met the Bronx native when she was 18 years old. The producer loves her voice and quickly transforms her into the glamorous and rebellious singer who topped the charts nine times in the 60s.

The couple married in 1968 and divorced in 1974, three decades before Phil murdered actress Lana Clarkson.
