Ronald D. Moore develops Magic Kingdom TV universe at Disney Plus

Ronald D. Moore is developing several TV projects at Disney Plus that will take place in Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Variety confirmed it with sources.

The first such project is ‘The Society of Explorers and Adventurers’, which Moore will write and execute. The series is loosely based on the fictional organization of the same name that is part of the Disney theme park. In the show, the theme lands and characters of the Disney parks and classic movies actually exist in a different reality.

Moore is also reportedly working with the Disney Imagineering Team on the other projects, which amount to an interconnected universe similar to Marvel or ‘Star Wars’, but within the world of Disney theme parks, with Moore overseeing the franchise . Maril Davis and Ben McGinnis of Moore’s Tall Ship Productions are also involved in all of the projects.

Reps for Disney and 20th Television declined to comment.

The news of the development comes shortly after it was reported that Moore had signed a lucrative, multi-year deal with 20th Television, now part of Walt Disney Television. Moore is a lifelong Disney fan and says he has passed on offers from various studios to work with the company. It was announced earlier that Moore and Jon M. Chu are developing a “Swiss Family Robinson” series for Disney Plus.

Moore’s most recent projects are the alternative history space drama “For All Mankind” by Apple and “Outlander” by Starz. He is known for his work in the Star Trek universe and also for the development of the highly acclaimed reload of ‘Battlestar Galactica’ for Syfy.

He is picked up by CAA.

The news about the potential Magic Kingdom TV universe comes as Disney continues to expand such franchises on Disney Plus based on their most famous IP. The power giant has already begun launching shows in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the launch of “WandaVision”, with “Falcon and the Winter Soldier” on the deck for March. Disney has also had tremendous success with its live-action “Star Wars” series “The Mandalorian”, with several new “Star Wars” projects currently underway.

The Hollywood Reporter first reported the Magic Kingdom news.
