Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, on Tuesday joined other Republicans in expressing disapproval of President Biden’s $ 1.9 billion COVID-19 relief plan, which the bill calls a “clunker.”
Romney writes a headline in the Wall Street Journal pointing to a recent analysis by the two-party Congressional Budget Office.
ROMNEY: TRUMP WILL BE GIC PICK EQUAL IF HE RUNS
The study showed that “more than a third of the intended funding – $ 700 billion – would not be spent until 2022 or later, undermining the government’s claim that the huge price tag is justified for urgent pandemic needs.”

The Republican Study Committee (RSC) this week wrote a three-page memorandum to conservatives to “all the left-wing items the Democrats hope the public will not know.”

Among the provisions that the Conservatives are raising eyebrows at are $ 1400 stimulus checks that families with mixed status go with undocumented immigrants; allow the planned parenting to receive funds for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) designed to keep small businesses running; and nearly $ 600 million for additional emergency paid family leave for federal employees and U.S. postal service workers, according to the RSC memorandum.
Senate leader Chuck Schumer predicted that the Senate would pass the bill before March 14.
Biden could face serious challenges in his bid to gain Republican support for his proposal, especially with a federal minimum wage requirement of $ 15 per hour and how much to treat the struggling state and local governments. At least two Democrats – sens. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Cinema – have indicated that they will not support the pay rise, which jeopardizes the democratic majority.
Romney wrote that the bill “would waste hundreds of billions of dollars, do nothing meaningful to get children back and create a job-creating policy.”
