Roku tests new, rechargeable remote control – but it charges via Micro-USB

Roku is testing a new version of its remote control for its set-top boxes, the Roku Voice Remote Pro, which runs the AAA batteries for a built-in rechargeable battery via Zatz Not Funny.

Along with the rechargeable batteries, the new model – unveiled by Reddit user u / KingTut206 on the Roku subreddit – offers a few extra features, including a “lost remote” option and hands-free voice controls. (So you can say something like “Hey Roku, find my remote” and let it ping.) It also contains two customizable buttons, in addition to the four pre-programmed buttons for streaming services that worked with the company. .

Unfortunately, the new remote charges via Micro-USB, not the more modern USB-C. It’s also not widely available at the moment: the current version appears to be rather a limited early access test, with only 2,000 remotes selling for $ 29.99.

Hopefully, however, Roku will take the opportunity to upgrade the Voice Remote Pro before launching it more widely. We definitely have some suggestions if the company needs it: USB-C, wireless charging and backlit buttons are a great place to start.
