About 70 Rite Aid stores in New Jersey will begin Friday to make appointments and administer vaccinations. They then join the CVS chain as another distribution point for the COVID vaccine.
Health Department spokeswoman Nancy Kearney said the Rite Aid sites and their registration links starting Friday will appear on the state’s list of vaccination sites, though she did not say what time.
You will not be able to register with RiteAid.com, said Chris Savarese, company spokesman.
Each store will receive about 100 doses a week to get started, he said.
‘These awards will grow over time and complement the existing offer of state and local governments. “Rite Aid will provide vaccinations in more than half of its locations and expects to deliver vaccinations at all its locations as soon as the stock is available,” he said.
Savarese said Rite Aid pharmacies will initially receive direct federal grants in five states and two jurisdictions: California, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia and New York City.
“Initially, it will be difficult to get vaccinations from any service provider,” said Heyward Donigan, Rite Aid’s president and chief executive officer. “However, we expect the availability of the vaccine to improve over time, and Rite Aid is ready to administer as many vaccines as we are allocated quickly, safely and effectively.”
The company said it expects demand to continue to significantly exceed supply in the foreseeable future.
As more supply increases, Rite Aid will increase the number of stores offering vaccinations, the company said.
