Rite Aid now offers COVID-19 vaccinations at its Michigan stores

Rite Aid now offers COVID-19 vaccinations in its stores in five states, including Michigan, through a direct federal program that will provide approximately 100 doses per week to each participating site.

The company is one of the first to participate in the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program, which will award vaccine doses directly to pharmacies for distribution based on state and local requirements.

Rite Aid expects initial doses per week per store to increase over time. The company starts by delivering doses to more than half of its locations in California, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia and New York City. The goal is to deliver vaccinations in all its locations when supplies are available.

“Initially, it will be difficult to make appointments with any service provider with vaccines,” said Heyward Donigan, president and CEO of Rite Aid. “However, we expect the availability of the vaccine to improve over time, and Rite Aid is ready to administer as many vaccines as we are allocated quickly, safely and effectively.”

The company meets the demand to exceed supply in the “foreseeable future”.
