In the video interview, Ellen said that while she only defeated COVID herself, Rita and her husband, Tom Hanks, also 64, got it ‘early’.

When asked if they get calls for advice, she said, ‘Well, and you feel a little superheroic and superhuman because you have the antibodies and you feel you can go places and do things except no one else anywhere can not go and do anything. ‘

But yes, we got a lot of calls and it was actually lovely to hear from people. And I know we talked when you had it. And it’s awful to have it. Hopefully the vaccine will be there now and people can get it, and we can get back to normal life soon. ‘

Ellen noted that if people have the virus, ‘people are afraid of you and they run away’.

Rita said that when she and Tom had it, ‘we got it so early that we were completely isolated and did not see anyone. It was just us. And sometimes he scared me, so I ran away, ‘she joked.

Ellen asked if she had recently been tested for antibodies, which according to Rita was said, and which actually is no more.

Rita said: ‘Unfortunately I no longer have the antibodies. I just tested two weeks ago, and I no longer have the antibodies, but it’s OK, I have a mask. And I have a hand sanitizer, so I’m back like everyone else. ‘

Rita and Tom both contracted and repaired COVID-19 in March while in Australia for work; they were told at the time that they had contracted the disease in the US or on a trip to Australia – not in Australia.

During her Ellen interview, she also talked about her father, who chose the family name Wilson after taking it off a street nameplate.

‘The name I was born with was Margarita Ibrahimoff, who I think sounds like a fantastic Bulgarian gymnast, but he was tired of people asking him how do you spell the name, how do you pronounce it? And so he chooses Wilson because he knows no one would ever ask him how to spell Wilson. ‘
