Rita Wilson is one year since her coronavirus battle began

Rita Wilson reflects on this time last year when coronavirus was diagnosed in her and husband Tom Hanks.

The couple, both 64, were in Australia when they began to feel ‘very tired and hurt’ and were admitted to hospital two days later.

Wilson shared more information about the narrow period in their lives in an Instagram message, saying, “I want to take a moment to say how grateful we are for our health.”

‘Today I play the Sydney Opera House, the next day I feel very tired and sore, two days later admitted to hospital in Covid 19.

‘I want to take a moment to say how grateful we are for our health, how grateful we are for the medical care we have received in Queensland, and that we share in the grief of every person who is a loved one to this lost virus.

She added: ‘I am hopeful that so many people can get the vaccine’, while saying she feels blessed that music has carried her through these difficult years and has been ‘very healing’.

Last year on March 11, Hanks first shared the news of their positive diagnosis via Instagram.

‘We felt a little tired, as if we had a cold and a little body ache. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fever. “To play things right, as is currently needed in the world, we were tested for the coronavirus, and we were found to be positive,” he said.

They were the first celebrities to have a positive diagnosis when so much was still unknown about the virus, and they were forced to quarantine in Queensland, where Hanks filmed the film Elvis Presley by Baz Luhrmann.

In an interview with the National Defense Radio Show, Hanks reveals the severity of Wilson’s symptoms, which were worse than his. Rita had a harder time than I did. She had a much higher fever and had other symptoms. She lost her sense of taste and smell, ‘he says.

The Forrest Gump actor also reported that her side effects of hydroxychloroquine – which was administered due to her high fever – caused her so much nausea that she ‘had to crawl from the bed to the facilities’.

Wilson – who also survived breast cancer – spoke to Hoda Kotb and Jenna Hager a month after the hospital TODAY when she told how cancer had helped her prepare for COVID-19.

‘You hear stories and you think,’ It’s happening to someone out there, ‘and I told Tom after I had cancer, I do not think things happen to other people. They can happen to you too, ‘she says.

She continues: ‘So I mentioned it to him. I said, ‘You know, we can get coronavirus. There is nothing that says we should not get it, ‘and two days later we were diagnosed positively. ‘

Other celebrities who have tested positive for the relentless virus include Idris Elba, Andy Cohen, The Rock, Colton Underwood (The Bachelor), Zoey Deutch, Lena Dunham and the late Nick Cordero.
