The FBI is investigating whether members of the New York City Fire Department were involved in the attack on the U.S. Capitol building on Wednesday, following anonymous tips.
An FDNY spokesman confirmed to Fox News on Saturday that “active or retired” firefighters were suspected of being among the rioters who stormed the Capitol.
“The department received anonymous allegations that active or retired members were present at the events at the U.S. Capitol on January 6 and, as required, provided the information to the FBI,” FDNY spokesman Frank Dwyer told ABC on Saturday. said after ABC 7 first reported the investigation.
Although Dwyer did not clarify how many people were believed to be present among the thousands of Trump supporters, Acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen said earlier this week that those involved in the attack “will experience the full consequences of their actions under the law” .
Rosen said the Department of Justice will continue in the coming days and weeks to methodically assess evidence, prosecute crimes and arrest.

About 16 people have been charged in federal court with the Capitol attack, including Derrick Evans, a delegate from West Virginia.
Evans posted a video of himself crossing the threshold of the building as thousands streamed in, climbing the exterior of the Capitol’s walls, slamming windows and forcing doors open while Capitol police struggled to gain control of the situation.
Evans resigned after being charged Saturday.
According to a statement released by the DOJ on Friday, another 40 people have been charged in the high court.
