Last year was, among other things, an abundant year for iPad fans. From the new iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard to the surprisingly powerful iPad Air, you will be forgiven for struggling to keep up with the deluge of tablets that Apple released in 2020. And if new leaks are to be believed, 2021 will continue the trend.
We’ve been hearing for a while that Apple is working on the first iPad that includes a Mini-LED screen, and if there are new leaks, it may arrive sooner rather than later – with some unexpectedly impressive interior circuits. It seems that the iPad Pro of 2021 is shaping up for our best list of drawing tablets.
According to well-known Apple leaker Mark Gurman, the new iPad Pro will feature internas “on the same level” with the M1 chip currently found in the new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, which was released in November. We’ve been amazed at the performance of Apple’s new custom silicone chip (and are surprised that there are already some early M1 MacBook deals online).
Although we assumed that the new iPad would be fast, the performance at M1 level sounds quite exciting news for creative. We did not expect any of Apple’s tablets to compete with M1 Macs for a while, but it makes sense again that the company wants to differentiate the iPad Pro from less powerful models. Currently, there is not much between the Air and the Pro – and we even wondered if the iPad Air 4 made the current iPad Pro irrelevant.
Recent rumors have also suggested that the new iPad Pro will be the first Apple tablet with a mini-LED screen, allowing for much higher contrast and brightness. Anything that makes the iPad an even sharper digital canvas can only be a good thing for designers (though it may not be for your wallet if you upgraded last year).
If all these rumors turn out to be true, an impossibly fast slide and incredible screen technology could clash to make the 2021 iPad Pro the best tablet for advertising. And we may not have to wait long to find out – there are rumors that Apple will hold a rally on March 16, where a new iPad Pro could be put together by redesigned AirPods.
