On Friday, RIDOH reported 2,376 deaths since the start of the pandemic – that was 2,466 on Monday.

The three-day adjustment represented a 4% increase in the total number of deaths during the past 11 months. The agency claims that only 9 of the deaths occurred over the weekend.

The beleagured agency claims that there was no intentional reporting, but that it was routine – even though it is the biggest correction so far.

RIDOH increases by 4%

“Over the past three days, our total death toll has been 5, 1 and 3. However, the total number of confirmed deaths since the onset of the pandemic has increased by more,” said RIDOH spokesman Joseph Wendelken.

According to RIDOH “our death data for at least three months is considered provisional and is often adjusted upwards. This is because it takes time before causes of death are confirmed and that we cross-reference different data sets. We conduct regular reviews to cross our case data and overall mortality rate to ensure that all COVID-19 deaths are captured. ‘

“This led us to identify COVID-19 deaths that were not initially reported to RIDOH as COVID-19 deaths. We conducted one of these routine investigations, and therefore there was a larger increase in the total. COVID-19 of today. Deaths, ”they added.

“We still have a significant mortality rate and there is simply too much contamination and transmission in Rhode Island,” said Dr. Michael Fine, former director of health in Rhode, said.

Earlier Monday, RIDOH acknowledged that the application for 65+ people who want to plan vaccination was started late after experiencing technical difficulties.
