Vaccinations may not be effective

Dr Scott Gottlieb, who appears on ‘Face the Nation’, warned on Sunday that the New York variant of COVID-19 could re-infect survivors of the virus and people vaccinated.

Gottlieb said that the variant is known as B.1.526 and it concerns it, and that it is not yet known where it causes an increase in cases in parts of New York City.

“What we do not understand with 1,526 is whether people are re-infected with it and whether people who may have been vaccinated now become infected with it,” Gottlieb said. New York City now has the 5th highest number of cases per 100.00.

“One of the concerns about this particular variant is that it has the mutation that is also in the South African variant, in the B.1.351 variant, which we know in some cases causes people who have already had a coronavirus, be infected with it again, “he added. “The question is whether 1,526 is responsible for some of the increases we are currently seeing in New York, and whether this is the beginning of a new outbreak in the city.”
