Retired Cary police captain charged with DWI on New Year’s Day :: WRAL.com

Retired Cary Police Captain Jerry Lynn McCormick is being charged by Cary Police on New Year’s Day while being harmed.

McCormick, 56, was in an accident with another car at the intersection of Tryon Road and Kildaire Farm Road, officials said. No injuries were reported in the crash.

He was a North Carolina police officer for more than thirty years and retired as captain of the Cary Police Department in 2019, according to his online resume.

When reached by telephone Saturday morning, McCormick apologized for his actions.

“I’m sorry it happened,” McCormick said Saturday morning. “It was a poor judgment on my part.”

The incident had nothing to do with the city of Cary, he said, emphasizing that he had been retiring for more than a year.

According to McCormick’s business website, he now works as a consultant and public speaker.

His website says: “As a retired police captain and security chief, I work with companies, associations, non-profit organizations and universities that train employees, students, customers and staff and empower them to stay safe in unexpected or emergencies.”

One of his training courses offered is how to stay safe on the road by ‘avoiding ordinary distractions while driving’.
