Results and highlights: Estrada wins split over Chocolatito

Juan Francisco Estrada waited more than eight years to achieve his second chance with the Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez and was finally able to achieve a controversial victory with a split decision for some revenge, which won the WBC and WBA titles on 115 pounds united it.

Estrada (42-3, 28 KO) won in the scores of 115-113 and 117-111 in his favor, the latter being a source of real debate as many will see it as too broad, with the third card given to Gonzalez (50- 3, 41 KO), 115-113.

Bad Left Hook fought 115-113 and 116-112 on different maps, both for ‘Chocolatito’.

Outside of any debate, it was simply a great fight, and I think boxing fans would absolutely welcome a third fight between the two stars, who are two of the most amazing skilled fighters in the sport. It was relentless action from the opening bell of the first round to the last bell of the 12th round, and everyone had to take off their hats for these two excellent fighters.

If you missed the fight, please do yourself a favor and watch it as soon as possible.

“I think I did enough to win. ‘Chocolatito’ is a great fighter and I think he deserves the trilogy, ‘Estrada said through an interpreter. “I knew it was a close fight, I did not know if I was up or down, but I knew I had to end the fight in the last two rounds.”

The plan is that Estrada Srisaket Sor Rungvisai – who won a much less impressive battle on Friday – will face for the third time, but it seems that he thinks there may be more demand to see Estrada-Chocolatito III – and he may be right. Still, Rungvisai is the obligation for Estrada, so if Estrada wants the WBC to retain half of its combined championship, it should come next, unless Rungvisai would surprise everyone and step aside.

“Whatever happened had to happen, but I fought it well. I would have been happy with the result anyway. I did my job, ”Gonzalez said through an interpreter. “It was a better fight than the first. I felt I had won. In the last round I gave it my all, it was an amazing round. I’m happy because I’m going back home to see my family. ”

Gonzalez obviously wants a third fight. “I won both. Whatever Estrada wants, we will do it. I am very pleased with my performance and that the crowd is enjoying the fight. ”

CompuBox landed Estrada 314 of 1212 (26%) total beats, compared to 391 of 1,317 (30%) for Gonzalez. It was simply an incredible output from both fighters. Gonzalez outscored Estrada in powerplays, 352-297, but Estrada held a solid lead in body shots, 89-31.
