Residents of Va 16 and older can plan for vaccinations on Sunday

The expanded suitability comes when Virginia reached a new milestone in its vaccination program, with about half of all adults in the Commonwealth receiving at least one dose.

All Virginians aged 16 and over will be eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine from Sunday, April 18th.

The expanded suitability comes when Virginia reached a new milestone in its vaccination program, with about half of all adults in the Commonwealth receiving at least one dose.

Governor Ralph Northam, calling it an ‘exciting new phase’ of Virginia’s vaccination program, shared a new video message urging Virginians to seek a vaccination opportunity to call the nationwide call center or use the new Vaccinate Virginia website to to find vaccine suppliers.

Northam says: ‘If you are over 16 and want to get a safe, effective and free vaccine, you need to make a plan to give it a try. The more people are vaccinated, the faster we can end this pandemic and return to our normal lives. He notes that it can take a few weeks to get appointments for everyone.

With this transition to phase 2, appointments are still needed for most vaccinations.

As of Sunday, Virginians can find and schedule appointments directly through the vaccination system in Virginia by visiting vaccinate.virginia.gov or by calling 877-VAX-IN-VA (877-829-4682, TTY users call 711).

Only the Pfizer vaccine is approved for teens 16 and 17 years old. The Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines have been approved for ages 18 and older.
