Capcom will present the Resident Evil Showcase later this week, and fans of the horror franchise have just let their knickers take a turn at the prospect of transferring the three classic PlayStation 1 games to modern consoles. It all stems from a countdown on the franchise’s Twitter account, who started marking every day in the run-up to the event with a look back at every title on the mainline. Well, all but Resident Evil 0. Thanks to some interesting distinctions between the original games and the videos that Capcom posted on Twitter, some fans believe we’re about to get ports of call from the original PS1 versions of Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.

Every post so far has focused on the inventory screens, and Twitter users with eagle eyes are watching changes between the games launched in the 1990s and what Capcom posted on its social media channel. For example, the video of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis below contains a much longer inventory section as well as the 25-year-old badge in the lower right corner.

Because of the way Capcom counted down to the upcoming Resident Evil Showcase, fans thought the developer might announce ports for the three classic games. However, they did encounter a bit of a roadblock yesterday, while the countdown continued with Resident Evil 4. The general thinking now is just that Capcom is counting down to the digital event by looking back at each release from the mainline. That would be exactly the same as a Resident Evil Village unveiling this Thursday. No matter how cool it would be on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, we really doubt it would work.
