GOP representative Adam Kinzinger has launched a new political action committee to return to Republicans embracing former President Donald Trump.
“The Republican Party has lost its way. If we want to lead again, we must muster the courage to remember who we are,” Kinzinger said in a video posted on the new Country First PAC website.
The PAC is meant to put money behind candidates who oppose Trump’s influence on the party.
“We need to remember what we believe and why we believe it,” Kinzinger said. “Looking in the mirror can be difficult, but the time has come to choose what kind of party we are going to be, and what kind of future we will fight to achieve.”
On January 6, Trump supporters trespassed on the U.S. Capitol and clashed with law enforcers, stopping a joint session of Congress as lawmakers would confirm President Joe Biden’s victory in the election. Five people were killed in the attack.
Trump has been criticized for encouraging the mob and the House has since charged him with inciting an uprising. The Senate will hold a trial and vote on whether the former president will be convicted during the week of February 8.
Kinzinger was one of 10 Republicans who voted to accuse Trump. He told Anthony Fisher of Insider that his family has since sent a petition to get him fired.

Kinzinger on Thursday was critical of the visit of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy to Trump’s home in Florida and said the GOP is not a ‘Trump first party’.
“The former president is desperate to keep looking like he’s leading the party. And the problem is until we push back and say, ‘you know, it’s not a Trump first party, it’s a first party in the country. , “Kinzinger told Chuck Todd in an interview on Meet the press on Sunday.
“In some cases, you can support Donald Trump in this endeavor. But in my case, I believe it’s a whole new movement,” Kinzinger said. “Until we all stand up and say that, we’re going to chase our tails like that in this situation.”
