Private coach John Beck, a former NFL quarterback who played for then-offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan in Washington, has been working with Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields this season. Beck now lives with Shanahan and has been working with North Dakota State quarterback Trey Lance for the past few weeks.

It is no coincidence.

Fields and Lance are one of the most likely prospects the San Francisco 49ers will pick No. 3 overall. ESPN’s Dan Graziano reports that Lance collaborated with Beck at the request of Niners.

San Francisco gave Beck a list of exercises they wanted to see from Lance, meaning they were heavily involved in planning Monday’s workout.

Other teams, including the Atlanta Falcons, are expected to attend Monday as well.

“I know how he’s going to coach quarterbacks,” Beck said recently about Shanahan in an interview with The Athletic. “I know what he’s looking for. I think it’s an easy extension of Kyle in terms of the eyes I have for quarterbacks. ‘

San Francisco’s huge involvement in planning Lance’s second pro day may indicate that the team is really serious about the former Bison being an option for the overall number 3.

The 2021 NFL Draft begins on April 29 from Cleveland, Ohio.
