We have no idea what the Miami Dolphins’ 2021 NFL draft talk looks like this afternoon. But what we do know is that Kyle Pitts in Florida is the consensus in this draft, and the apparent consensus top recipient in the draft this year is Ja’Marr Chase of the LSU. How good are both of their resumes? There’s a viable chance, thanks to the Atlanta Falcons and the Cincinnati Bengals, that neither of those two players will hold on to the overall No. 6 – when the Miami Dolphins get on the clock.
This is the bad news.
But the good news for the Dolphins is that a recent report by Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated appears to be that the Miami Dolphins could avoid a potential ‘doomsday’ scenario in the 2021 NFL draft where neither the top nor the top receiver lasts until the overall number 6. The report stems from Breer’s weekly MMQB column and highlights the intentions of the Atlanta Falcons, who will currently vote on the overall number 4.
‘There is talk of the first three choices. And that allows the Hawks as a team to look at – one that will have to make a decision with some complicated finances at quarter (due to all the restructuring of Matt Ryan), and a team that needs cheaper young talent surrounds its core, ”Breer wrote.
‘My guess was that the Falcons would stand at number 4 and take a quarter because I do not think they want to count on being that high again and it is a very strong year in the position. But I do know that they are open to the idea of trading the selection and have had exploratory talks with other teams about an agreement that would lead to someone else moving to number 4. ”
Exploratory talks with other quarterback-hungry teams are certainly something to note, though the Carolina Panthers’ decision to trade for QB Sam Darnold could potentially affect the market’s urgency for this year’s draft. And if that’s the case, Miami might get anxious and see the Hawks set up TE Kyle Pitts on the principle of the best player available. But if there are enough teams who want to fight each other in a quarter of an hour and the Falcons get a deal that is sweet to force them to act and follow the calls they have already had, the Dolphins will be guaranteed to see at least one. of TE1 & WR1 on the board for them at number 6 overall.
