Report: iPhone 13 is on track for the end of September release

Daniel Ives’ supply chain analysis at Wedbush indicates that the iPhone 13 is on track for a regular launch in September.

Last year, the disruption of the supply chain due to the COVID-19 pandemic led Apple to break its usual tradition without launching new iPhone models in September. Instead, the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro will be released on October 23, with the Mini and Max arriving on November 13.

In previous years, Apple has released iPhone models over several months. For example, in 2018, the iPhone XR will be released in October, but the iPhone XS series was launched in September as usual. However, 2020 was the first year that Apple did not launch a single new iPhone model in September, a trend that has otherwise been maintained since the iPhone 4S in 2011.

Wedbush says supply controls indicate the iPhone 13 series is currently scheduled for the third week of September. However, product model adjustments could push it out until early October, at least for some models of the iPhone 13.

The iPhone 13 is expected to feature various feature upgrades, such as a 120Hz high refresh rate, a smaller notch and improved cameras. As previously reported, the analyst believes that the iPhone 13 will offer 1 TB storage models for the first time.

Wedbush expects Apple to build 25% more iPhone 13 units than iPhone 12, with current estimates in the 100 million range. The analyst believes that demand for the iPhone remains strong, mainly driven by the interest of consumers and entrepreneurs in 5G devices.
