A series of special black PlayStation 5 consoles are now being canceled, and most buyers are receiving a full refund via PayPal, after the retailer received SUP3R5 ‘credible threats’ according to TechRadar.

“Last night, our team started receiving credible threats to their security,” SUP3R5 tweeted before deactivating its Twitter account. “We take these threats seriously. We are not prepared to jeopardize the safety and well-being of our team, or the potential impact it could have on your order.”

SUP3R5 did not elaborate on said threats, or why it was enough to enforce a cancellation.

“All existing orders will be canceled and fully refunded in the coming days,” SUP3R5 continued. “We were going to make it a fun way to celebrate a shared nostalgia. Apparently, there are people out there who are willing to interfere with that.”

That said, some users have started receiving full refunds while others are still waiting. Some look at delete their payment information from the SUP3R5 website, but is unable to do so.

SUP3R5 tried to fill a niche. Some PlayStation 5 owners regret Sony’s color choice when the system first launched. After a series of black consoles, Sony decided to switch to white. Buyers regret the fact that there is no black alternative to “fit” the other consoles in their collection.

SUP3R5 saw an opening in the market for a classic black PlayStation 5 with color like the PlayStation 2. The ‘Retro Inspired PlayStation 5 Console’ pre-ordered for around $ 649, limited to 304 units. The drop sold out quickly, with a projected spring release.

However, the buying process itself was full of problems. Stock issues have prevented buyers from locking up their systems. Others received no confirmation that their purchases had gone through. Confused buyers are still reporting issues because SUP3R5 seems to be reducing its online presence.

It is unclear whether this particular line will return, or whether SUP3R5 will be finished with the PS5 forever. “If we determine that it is safe to try again, we will do so,” SUP3R5 wrote in a statement now removed. The company did not respond to requests for comment.
