It was reported last week that Bills attack coordinator Brian Daboll was the favorite for the Chargers head coaching position, but that was before the Chargers spoke to Rams defense coordinator Brandon Staley a second time.

Staley spoke to the team for the second time on Sunday and he apparently convinced the team that their search was over. NFL Media reports that Staley will be the team’s next head coach.

The rent would quickly make Staley rise in the ranks. He has just finished his first season as defense coordinator and was in 2016 coaching at John Carroll University. It was also his alma mater, and this is where Chargers general manager Tom Telesco went to university, which may not have hurt his bid for the job. .

Staley will have high-level defensive talents like Joey Bosa and Derwin James at his disposal when he officially changes in Los Angeles. There is also a fairly large offensive asset at quarterback Justin Herbert and it appears that Staley will be charged in the coming years with continuing his development.
