The CDC would recommend that vaccinated people try to be at home with only other vaccinated people. They still have to wear masks elsewhere while considering other safety measures, such as social distance, Politico reports, referring to two unnamed senior administration officials.
In describing the upcoming leadership during a news conference Monday, dr. Anthony Fauci, President Biden’s Chief Medical Officer, said:
“I use the example of a girl coming from out of town who has been double-vaccinated, and a husband and wife have been double-vaccinated, and maybe a neighbor you know has been double-vaccinated,” Fauci said. “Small gatherings in the house of people, I think you can clearly feel that the risk – the relative risk is so low that you do not have to wear a mask, that you can have a good social gathering in the house.”
The new guidelines were expected to be announced today, but Politico later reported that the rules had been delayed. A new date for publication is not yet clear.
After publication, the CDC guidelines are expected to describe how vaccinated Americans should respond in certain scenarios, such as while traveling, Politico said.
The guidelines come as more people are vaccinated and coronavirus cases and deaths are declining across the country, but health experts warn that ‘normal’ is still a long way off.
