The Bears have asked permission to speak with George Edwards, senior defense assistant for Cowboys, for the opening of their defense coordinator, reports Todd Archer of ESPN.
The Cowboys want to retain Edwards, who was Minnesota’s 2014-19 defense coordinator, but they can not block the request.
According to Archer, Edwards spoke to Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy about the Dallas coordinator’s job before appointing team Dan Quinn.
The Bears replace Chuck Pagano, who retired from the franchise after two years.
They also asked to defend Colts coach Jonathan Gannon and accept Jay Rodgers, defensive line coach, and Sean Desai as safe coach as internal candidates.
