Report: Bears ‘pushed’ QB Carson Wentz harder than Colts – but his preference for Indy complicates trade talks

According to the MMQBs Albert Breer on ‘The Herd with Colin Cowherd’, while the Chicago Bears ‘pushed harder’ for former Philadelphia quarter-franchise full-back Carson Wentz, the Indianapolis Colts remains its preferred trading destination – complicating ongoing negotiations:

‘I think Chicago is the frontrunner this morning and I know there’s a feeling in that building that (from) Ryan Pace, from the coaching staff, Matt Nagy, John DeFilippo, their pass coordinator, who are two of the best years out “Carson Wentz in 2016 and 2017 as his coach of the quarter, they believe that they can fix him mechanically,” Breer said during Monday’s performance.

“One of the biggest problems with Carson Wentz is that he has not always responded well to hard coaching, so that’s something they will have to go through because John DeFilippo was the bad cop in Philadelphia.”

‘I think the case is now where Colin is where Carson Wentz wants to go. I think it’s become pretty clear he’d rather go to Indianapolis, and I think part of that is going to be for the Eagles now: ‘Well, if our best return is Chicago over Indy, then we need to convince Carson. Wentz it, this is the only place you go, bot. And you have to do it and accept it and realize that the Bears are going to give you a good chance. ”

‘And I can understand why Carson Wentz would be skeptical, because look, Indianapolis, they’re stable. Chris Ballard. Frank Reich. They are not going anywhere. In Chicago, you are going to play for guys whose work is going to be going on in 2021. ”

‘But I think it’s pretty clear at this point that the Bears have been pushing harder than the Colts to get Carson Wentz, and that the Eagles are probably going to get their best return with Carson Wentz going to Chicago. I think the last piece of it would be, ‘Can you convince Carson Wentz that this is the right thing to do?’ because I think the Bears would at least like to know that Carson Wentz is on board before he pulls the trigger on a brand. ”

It also sounds relative to a number of recent reports.

PFT and NBC Sports’ Chris Simms reported last week that Indianapolis was Wentz’s preferred trading destination. We also heard from NFL Analyst Ron Jaworski that the Colts offered two second-round picks and maybe a middle-round pick, but the general manager of Philadelphia Howie Roseman raised hopes for more – presumably at least a first round.

There was a subsequent report that another NFL team offered more than the Colts—With that nameless mystery team, it’s probably the Bears now.

The trade saga ‘Carson Wentz to the Colts’ continues without a real end in sight.

That is, until the 3rd day of the new league year (starting March 17), when Wentz receives a $ 10 million roster bonus –which the Eagles simply will not pay according to all indications.

Until the deadline, however, this ‘cat-and-mouse’ game between the Eagles and Colts can continue, with each side hoping the other eventually clicks.

That being said, Colts general manager Chris Ballard is notorious for his draft pick and has already said his franchise will ‘not act out of desperation’ for a starting quarterback this season.

This recent Breer report indicates that the Eagles could get more from the Bears than the Colts for Wentz, but if the high-profile quarterback does not actually want to play in ‘The Windy City’, it creates a problem for Philadelphia – because Chicago General Manager Ryan Pace will not want to hand over a high draft compensation to a player who does not really want to be there to lead his team – with his job already in 2021:

This could eventually force the Eagles to accept the Colts’ smaller offer due to the loss of Philly’s leverage – if the Bears are forced to drop out due to Wentz’s unwillingness to play there.
