Rep. Boebert clashes with Capitol Police over metal detector

A member of Congress’s gun pack set off a suddenly installed metal detector in the U.S. Capitol – and refused to let police look through her wallet.

New Year’s member Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) Was not denied access to the living room after Tuesday night, the Denver Post said.

It was later seen that Boebert entered the room to vote, but it was unclear whether she would still carry her suitcase, the report said.

Boebert, a fierce supporter of gun rights, later tweeted, “I may legally carry my firearm in Washington, DC and within the Capitol complex.”

Boebert also said the metal detectors installed at the entrances to the living room earlier Tuesday would not have stopped the violence we saw last week when supporters of President Trump stormed the Capitol.

She called the additional security measure “just another political stunt” by Nancy Pelosi (D-California).

In a statement Tuesday afternoon announcing the new metal detectors, Acting House Sergeant Timothy Blodgett reminded lawmakers that firearms are banned inside the room.

“The failure or transportation of prohibited objects may result in the denial of access to the room,” he added.

Blodgett was sworn in on Monday to replace Paul Irving, who resigned as the arms sergeant following the deadly January 6 siege of the Capitol.
