Remember the Newsom campaign organizer says that Biden’s opposition shows that the governor knows he’s in trouble

The White House weighed in for the first time this week on the recall campaign to oust California Government Gavin Newsom over dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki tweeted that Newsom shares President Joe Biden’s commitment to addressing the climate crisis and bringing the pandemic under control.

In addition, Psaki said, the president is “clearly against the attempt to repeal Newsom government.”

Anne Dunsmore, the campaign manager and financial director of Rescue California 2021, told Fox News on Wednesday that Psaki’s statement indicates that Newsom has taken the recall threat seriously.

“If they have to shout the big guns like that, it means they know they’m in trouble,” Dunsmore said. “That he had to get them out in a tweet from the White House to say they do not support the recall is more evidence that they are in trouble.”

Remember Gavin 2020, the main committee organizing the repeal, says that as of Wednesday, they have collected more than 1.4 million 1.5 million signatures needed to qualify for a vote. The group plans to collect 2 million signatures before the March 10 deadline to reimburse invalid signatures.

Fox News has made several attempts throughout the recall campaign to liaise with Newsom’s press team, but has received no response.

California Democrats who support Newsom tried to lead the recall as led by the fringe groups and white supremacists.

Rusty Hicks, chairman of the California Democratic Party, for example, has repeatedly made such allegations, saying at a news conference last month that the repeal effort should become “the California coup.”

“(It) is led by right-wing conspiracy theorists, white nationalists, anti-vaxxers, and groups that encourage violence against our democratic institutions,” Hicks said without providing some evidence.

Dunsmore predicted that such vitriols would inevitably backfire on Democrats – some of whom have actually criticized Hicks’ comments.

“If people make it biased, it’s going to catch fire again. They’re still saying, ‘QAnon and this mess,’ and it’s like, good luck. You want to keep firing shots with that kind of ammunition, it’s not going to help,” Dunsmore said.

Newsom was elected in a major landslide in the strong Democratic state in 2018, but has seen his fate sour as many residents grow tired of prolonged coronavirus restrictions that have hampered schools and businesses while competing in a major scandal for unemployment benefit fraud .
