Just moments before the kick-off of the Super Bowl in the second half on Sunday, Reddit surprised viewers, those who caught it anyway, with the shortest ad in Super Bowl history of just five seconds. The ad was simple, with little sound and no actors, just text on the screen. In the text, Reddit admitted that they could only buy a short place, because airtime cost about $ 5.5 million for 30 seconds, but they wanted to acknowledge the devastation that Redditers recently inflicted on Wall Street, saying: ‘One thing we learned from our communities last week is that underdogs can achieve almost anything if they come together around a common idea. The ad also admitted that one has to interrupt the TV in order to read it.
Another ad that is getting a lot of attention, for better or worse, is Bruce Springsteen’s Jeep ad in which he calls for national unity. The ad was shot at least in part in Lebanon, Kansas, a small town that boasts of being the geological center of the continental United States. In it, Springsteen says: ‘It’s no secret. The middle has been a difficult place to get to lately. Between red and blue, between servant and citizen, between our freedom and our fear. ”
One of the most popular ads was Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher, with Kunis reproducing Shaggy’s famous denial: “It was not me.” In the ad for Cheetos Crunch Pop Mix, Kunis denied stealing Kutcher’s bag despite traces of orange powder. After Kunis’ last denial, Shaggy says, “This is the first time it’s ever worked.”
Perhaps the funniest ad of the day was in a General Motors ad in which Will Ferrell raged in Norway for beating the US with electric vehicles. Ferrell sticks his hand through a globe before declaring that he will not stand for it, saying: ‘With GM’s new Ultium battery we will smash the diapers. Crush them! ”
